Introducing Yoga Moves
A four week yoga course for teens.
Tuesdays, 5-6 pm at Black Lotus Yoga Studio
March 12, 19, 26 and April 2
Your baby is starting to change! Physically and emotionally …. who the heck are they! We all know they have a lot on their minds as they begin to turn into werewolves and vampires. Yoga can help. We’ll start by taking some deep breaths and connecting, helping to calm and de-stress, inside and out ….and proceed from there.
Yoga is a 5000-year-old practice that understands and helps create balance. It is the full package, the real deal. The practice of ‘asanas’ or postures stimulates and integrates all the ‘systems’ in our body that help keep us healthy and moving and thinking well. The muscular and skeletal systems are important of course but yoga also works with the nervous, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine, respiratory, reproductive and digestive systems.
Many of our kids are finding life stressful and the physical changes can be overwhelming as they enter puberty. This is the time to help them learn how to manage themselves and their lives with kindness and grace. Many children are not getting enough balanced exercise and spend too many hours on devices and screens, or they are sustaining serious injuries from high impact sports. Rates of anxiety and depression in teens are up and while yoga is not miracle cure it can help with its clear understanding of the body and the mind.
Black Lotus Yoga is dedicated to creating a supportive and non-competitive environment for learning. Children around about 11-16 years old are welcome, no matter what level of fitness, weight, flexibility or ability. Yoga can be spectacular and exciting, but we’ll start slowly by learning the shapes, the breathing, some anatomy and the Sanskrit names of the asanas. Everyone will be encouraged to gently extend themselves in an enjoyable and supportive class environment.
All this in four weeks? Of course not … but I’d like to keep running these courses throughout the year and with practice comes possibility.
We would really appreciate it if you could forward this link on to anyone you know who you think may be interested or share it on your social media pages and with any schools you may be in touch with.
